I'm going insane Please HELP
by Shane Hansen
Now that you're working a home business do you feel more out of control than ever? You may be thinking, “Hey this is supposed to make my life easier that's why I quit my regular job and went into business for myself in the first place.” My days and weeks seem to run together in a wild blur. Do you, like me, spend every waking moment thinking of new ideas or implementing techniques to help grow your business? What is the expense of your insane business practice and disorganization? For me it is time with my kids and my spouse. I have to remember that they need me too and also that I need some ‘me' time as well in order to keep things sane.
The key is to set limits for your business. The business will not grow or succeed if you're constantly burning your candle at both ends. The first step is to set up business hours. When are you going to do your business? Remember most things in a home business are not live or die emergencies. Make a schedule and stick with it. Make sure you schedule a lunch break just as if you were at a regular job. When it's quitting time, it's quitting time.
Working late at home is far worse than working late at the office. Your family has more time with you but not quality time or time that matters to them.
Second make sure you plan ahead. Work according to your schedule and work smart. Then when it's time to play, make it play time without work looming in the background. Schedule a vacation day, or even a half day and do something just for you. Let your work time be work time and when the business day is over, leave business behind until your next scheduled business hours. Planning ahead may include a block of time in the morning for work, afternoon and early evening off for family and then a block of time in the late evening after the kids are in bed. This seems to work best for me.
Third but not least remember God intended your life to involve more than just work. So enjoy it and set your limitations to stay sane and in control of your new found freedom, your own business.
